Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

The Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

The Dye-sensitized Solar Cells are very unique and different in nature. These Solar Cells are made up of Silicon as well. The Silicon is the most suitable material which can absorb Sunlight and carry forward it to be processed into Electricity. The Dye-sensitized Solar Cells are very economic and highly energy efficient.

The Origination of D.S.S.C

The very first Dye-sensitized Solar Cell design came in the year 1991 by a scientist named Michael Gratzel. Michael Gratzel won the 2010 Millennium Technology Award after almost 20 years for his achievement in modern science. These Solar Cells are completely based on a Semi-Conductor. They are similar to the Thin Film Solar Cells.

How It Works?

The Dye-sensitized Solar Cells produce electricity much in the same manner like any other Solar Cells. However these Solar Cells are not completely ready to be induced into domestic or commercial applications. The Dye-sensitized Solar Cells must be perfected even more. Some flaws and issues must be solved first.

What The Dye Does?

The Dye inside the Solar Cell reacts with the Sunlight to produce energy. This energy is produced when Electrons separate from the thin film and the Dye starts producing enough particles for energy to be created. It is quite a complicated process thus it is better for professionals to handle this issue. The dye is however, responsible for a major chunk of power production.

Advantages of Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

Like all other Solar Cells, the Dye-sensitized Solar Cells can be mounted on the surface of different house roofs. These Solar Cells can be used in a small home which is not completely dependent upon Solar Electricity. The off-grid and on-grid applications are quite interesting and almost everything can be powered by these cells.

Dye-sensitized Solar Cells may emerge in the Global Market by the year 2020. Many more experts and scientists are working upon them to make these cells flawless and much more effective.
