Bachelor of Planning
Bachelor of Planning is a course which is not well known largely among the people. While on one hand students struggle to know about what this course offers, others are unaware of good colleges in India who offer this degree.
If you cross the previous two stages successfully after investing a lot of time and efforts then this third one might possibly make you scratch your head. Yes, we are talking about the Admission procedure. The process of admission usually varies across colleges and depends on factors like if it is a private or a government institution?
Here, we discuss the admission procedure of graduate course (Bachelor of Planning) in one of the premium planning institutions of the country, i.e., School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi. Bachelor of Physical Planning is a four years full time course offered by SPA.

Application and Selection Process
Qualifying Examination: JEE (Main) Paper 2B
If you wish to get into School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Delhi which is an “institution of National importance”, then you need to appear for JEE (Main) examination which is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).
Earlier, NTA used to conduct only two exams – JEE (Main) Paper 1 for B.Tech/ B.E. and JEE (Main) Paper 2 for B.Arch/ B. Plan. However, the exam pattern was revised by NTA in 2020 which resulted in separation of B.Arch and B.Planning and led to introduction of a new paper for the latter. Three papers were conducted in JEE (Main) 2021 unlike two conducted earlier in JEE (Main) 2020.
Eligibility
There has been a change in the eligibility condition for taking B.Planning exam. You no more need to have science in 10+2 to be able to appear for JEE Main if you are only aspiring to appear for the B.Plan paper. A candidate from any 10+2 stream with Maths as a mandatory subject is eligible for JEE Main B.plan paper.
This step will result in benefitting a large number of students from different fields as well. The candidates joining (or planning to join) B. Planning course will not have to study subjects like chemistry and physics anymore which was not the scenario earlier.
Admission Process
If a candidate is eligible for Bachelor’s program and has cleared the qualifying exam, then selection of candidates is done through JoSAA counselling.
SPA, Delhi has also introduced an Integrated Master of Planning course which is exclusively for their students and can be opted by the undergrads in their VII semester. This can prove to be really beneficial if you wish to pursue Masters in Planning after your graduation because in this way, you can complete your studies in one go and save a year as well.

Spot Round
After all the rounds of choice filling and seat allotment are over in JoSAA counselling, a spot round comes at the end which is usually after the college session starts. Spot round is the last round of seat allotment process which gets into action if there are any vacancies left in the college seats.
So, you can keep an eye on the announcement of a spot round if you have a rank anywhere near to the closing rank of last round as this could prove to be a golden chance for you to grab the spot.
Accommodation
Once you get your admission done, the next thing that might worry you is accommodation. SPA, Delhi has limited hostel accommodation and so it is not guaranteed for all. Hostel room allotment is completely merit based. However, students often share rooms in a pair or a group of three as per their convenience. A girl’s hostel is present inside the college campus itself (planning block at ITO, Delhi). The other one is in Maharani Bagh, Delhi which is shared by both boys and girls.
Due to limited number of rooms, students from NCR are not eligible to apply for the hostel rooms and are expected to make their own accommodation arrangements.
